SkillQuest Solutions is seeking an experienced Cook on behalf of our client, a busy and well-established Mexican restaurant and bar located in Glenelg, South Australia.
Situated in one of Adelaide’s most popular coastal dining precincts, this lively venue is known for its contemporary approach to Mexican cuisine and relaxed dining atmosphere. The menu offers a broad selection of traditional and modern Mexican-inspired dishes, including tacos, burritos, grilled meats, seafood, share plates and a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Salary - $70,000 - $85,000 plus superannuation per annum

THE ROLE:
The successful applicant will work as part of a busy kitchen team, preparing and cooking a diverse range of Mexican dishes while maintaining consistent standards of flavour, quality, presentation and food safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Prepare, cook and present a variety of Mexican and Mexican-inspired dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.
· Prepare menu items including tacos, burritos, grilled meats, seafood, share plates and other specialty dishes.
· Prepare ingredients, sauces, marinades, garnishes and accompaniments required for daily food service.
· Operate grills, ovens, fryers and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively, monitoring cooking times and temperatures.
· Check ingredients and food supplies for freshness, quality and suitability before preparation and cooking.
· Maintain consistent standards for seasoning, flavour, portion size, plating and presentation.
· Prepare meals to accommodate dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other special dietary requests.
· Assist with menu changes and contribute ideas for new dishes and improvements to existing menu items.
· Store ingredients and prepared foods correctly, following appropriate temperature control, labelling and stock-rotation procedures.
· Assist with stock control, inventory and ordering requirements under the direction of senior kitchen staff.
· Provide assistance and guidance to junior kitchen staff during food preparation and service as required.
· Work collaboratively with other kitchen and front-of-house team members to maintain efficient service during busy trading periods.
· Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment and utensils and maintain an organised kitchen environment.
· Comply with Australian food safety requirements, hygiene procedures and relevant workplace health and safety standards.
This role would suit an experienced Cook who enjoys working in a fast-paced restaurant environment and takes pride in preparing fresh, high-quality meals during busy lunch, dinner and peak service periods.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
· Relevant qualification, such as a Certificate III – Commercial Cookery or higher (or agreed equivalent).
· A minimum of one year of professional experience as a Cook within a commercial kitchen, ideally in Mexican cuisine.
· Sound knowledge and experience of preparing experience preparing modern Mexican cuisine.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques, flavour combinations and presentation standards.
· Experience using commercial kitchen equipment, including grills, ovens and fryers.
· Good knowledge of Australian food safety requirements, hygiene standards and safe food-handling practices.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency in food quality, flavour, presentation and portion sizes.
· Ability to work efficiently and remain organised during busy service periods.
· Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a kitchen team.
· Positive attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic.
· Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
· You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
