SkillQuest Solutions is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef on behalf of our client, a popular restaurant and bar located in Glenelg, South Australia.

Located in one of Adelaide’s busiest coastal dining precincts, this established venue offers a lively dining experience with a menu combining traditional and contemporary Mexican flavours. The restaurant serves a diverse selection of dishes including tacos, burritos, grilled meats, seafood, share plates and options catering for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diners.

Salary - $75,000 - $90,000 plus superannuation per annum

Employment Type - Full-time, Permanent

THE ROLE:

The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and preparing high-quality Mexican dishes, maintaining consistent food and presentation standards, supporting menu development and coordinating kitchen operations during busy service periods and special events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Organise and coordinate daily food preparation and cooking activities to support efficient kitchen operations and timely service.

· Prepare and cook a variety of Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, grilled meats, seafood, share plates and seasonal menu items.

· Prepare and cook beef, pork, seafood and other proteins using appropriate cooking and grilling techniques to achieve consistent flavour, texture and presentation.

· Contribute to menu planning, recipe development and seasonal menu changes, considering customer preferences, ingredient availability and food costs.

· Determine ingredient and food requirements and assist with ordering supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels.

· Monitor the quality of dishes throughout preparation and cooking and ensure meals consistently meet required standards for taste, presentation, portion size and quality.

· Maintain effective stock rotation, food storage and inventory practices in accordance with food safety requirements.

· Monitor portion sizes, food costs and wastage and assist with improving overall kitchen efficiency.

· Prepare suitable meals for customers with dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

· Supervise and guide kitchen staff and provide instruction on preparation methods, cooking techniques, presentation and safe work practices.

· Assist with training junior kitchen staff in food handling, hygiene, kitchen procedures and workplace standards.

· Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff to coordinate service during busy trading periods.

· Assist with food preparation and service for functions, catering requirements and special events as required.

· Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe kitchen and comply with relevant food safety, workplace and OH&S requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

· Relevant qualification, such as a Diploma of Hospitality Management - Commercial Cookery (or agreed equivalent).

· Minimum of one year of professional experience as a Chef within a commercial kitchen, restaurant or hospitality environment, ideally in Mexican cuisine.

· Strong knowledge and practical experience preparing modern Mexican cuisine.

· Demonstrated grill experience, including cooking meats, seafood and other specialty dishes.

· Experience contributing to menu development, recipe creation, food costing and menu improvements.

· Sound understanding of portion control, food costs, stock management and efficient kitchen operations.

· Knowledge of Australian food safety requirements, hygiene standards and safe food-handling practices.

· Ability to supervise, train and provide guidance to other kitchen team members.

· Strong communication, organisation and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and peak trading periods.

· You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
