About Us

Blue Gem Tourist Park is an established tourist accommodation and retail business located in Sapphire, in Queensland’s Central Highlands.

Alongside our caravan, camping and cabin accommodation, we operate an onsite convenience store and retail outlet servicing park guests, tourists, local residents and visitors to the Sapphire Gemfields.

Our retail outlet provides a variety of products and services including groceries, fresh and takeaway food, newspapers, ice, gas, fuel, jewellery, fossicking licences and hire equipment.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations of our onsite retail outlet.

This is a hands-on management position responsible for the overall operation of the store, including stock control and purchasing, staff supervision, customer service, pricing and promotions, financial and operational records, and workplace compliance.

The successful applicant will play an important role in maintaining efficient retail operations and a high standard of service for our customers and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the retail outlet to ensure efficient and effective service.
• Determining appropriate product ranges, stock levels and customer service standards based on customer demand, sales performance and business requirements.
• Managing purchasing activities, stock orders, supplier arrangements, deliveries and product availability.
• Assisting in developing and implementing pricing, purchasing, promotional and marketing activities for the retail outlet.
• Promoting the store’s products and services and maintaining effective product displays and merchandising.
• Serving customers, providing product information and advice, and responding to customer enquiries and service requirements.
• Maintaining accurate records of stock levels, purchases, sales, cash transactions and other financial activities.
• Preparing and monitoring store budgets, revenue, expenditure and overall retail performance.
• Monitoring sales trends, customer demand, seasonal trading patterns and stock movement to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, rostering, training and supervision of retail staff.
• Allocating duties, providing day-to-day direction to staff and monitoring employee performance and customer service standards.
• Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with suppliers and service providers.
• Ensuring the retail outlet complies with workplace health and safety requirements, company policies and relevant operating procedures.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

• A Diploma-level qualification or higher in Retail or Hospitality.
• At least one year of relevant experience in retail management, store management, convenience retail, hospitality retail operations or a similar customer-focused environment.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and coordinating retail staff.
• Experience with staff rostering, training and day-to-day performance supervision.
• Sound knowledge of purchasing, stock control, inventory management and supplier coordination.
• Experience with pricing, merchandising, promotions and customer service.
• Ability to maintain accurate stock, sales, cash and financial records.
• An understanding of budgeting, revenue and expenditure monitoring.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a busy and seasonally changing retail environment.
• A sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

About You

You will be organised, reliable and customer focused, with the ability to take responsibility for the effective operation of the retail outlet.

You will be comfortable supervising staff while also taking a hands-on approach to customer service, stock management and the daily requirements of the store.

Experience in a convenience store, tourist park, service station, supermarket or similar retail environment will be highly regarded.
