About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Board Member with strong corporate governance and financial oversight expertise to help guide the delivery of Miwatj Health’s Strategic Plan 2024–2033. This is an opportunity to contribute to the long-term vision of Self Determined Yolngu by supporting a community-controlled organisation that provides quality, comprehensive, holistic, primary and preventative health care across East Arnhem Land.
As a Board Member, you will help strengthen governance, financial sustainability, accountability and organisational performance while supporting Miwatj Health’s commitment to Yolngu-powered community health and wellbeing, advocacy for systemic change, and improved health outcomes for Yolngupeople.
About the Role
- Contribute to strong governance, strategic leadership and organisational accountability in support of Miwatj Health’s vision, purpose and ten-year goals.
- Provide informed oversight of financial performance, sustainability, reserves, audit outcomes, risk management and long-term financial planning.
- Support the achievement of healthy business operations and systems that are effective, efficient and financially sustainable.
- Help ensure the organisation remains accountable to Yolngu and authentically Aboriginal Community Controlled.
- Strengthen governance frameworks, compliance, continuous quality improvement and enterprise risk management.
- Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge to support transparent, evidence-based and culturally informed decision-making.
- Support the advancement of Yolŋu-powered community control, self-determination and improved health and wellbeing outcomes.
About You
- Experience in corporate governance, Board, committee or senior leadership roles.
- Strong financial literacy and ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, audit reports and financial risk.
- Commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and authentic community control.
- Appreciation of holistic health and wellbeing, including the social determinants of health.
- Alignment with Miwatj Health values of Community Control, Cultural Awareness, Raypirri, Yolŋu Focus, Quality and Together.
- Strategic thinking, integrity and sound judgement.
