Business Development Manager, Local Government
Public Sector Software
If your network and sales experience sit within WA local government, this is a territory where the business needs someone to take ownership.
We are recruiting an individual contributor salesperson to develop the Western Australian local government market for a software provider focused heavily on government and public service organisations.
The broader portfolio includes enterprise management, community engagement, library management, asset-related solutions and other software used to support council operations and service delivery.
The immediate requirement is straightforward. The WA local government market needs dedicated commercial coverage.
The role:
You will develop relationships across councils, identify where there is a genuine requirement for the company’s software and turn those conversations into qualified opportunities.
This is not simply an account servicing position. The brief is for someone who can create commercial activity within a defined market, build pipeline and keep opportunities moving through complex stakeholder and procurement environments.
You will:
- Develop new opportunities across WA local government
- Build relationships with decision makers and relevant operational stakeholders within councils
- Understand customer priorities before determining which software solutions are relevant
- Create and maintain a qualified territory pipeline
- Manage opportunities from initial conversation through demonstrations, commercial discussions and progression towards contract
- Coordinate product, presales and other internal specialists when required
- Maintain clear account plans, opportunity actions and pipeline visibility
- Build knowledge across the relevant software portfolio and use it to identify additional opportunities
Who we want to speak with:
The strongest alignment will come from people who understand how technology is bought and sold within government or similarly complex organisations.
Your background may be in enterprise software, SaaS or another technology environment, but you should be comfortable owning a territory rather than waiting for opportunities to arrive.
We are particularly interested in experience involving:
- Local government or public sector customers
- Territory-based business development
- Enterprise or application software
- Multi-stakeholder sales processes
- Pipeline creation and opportunity management
- Working with product and presales teams on solution-based sales
Knowledge of WA councils and the local government technology environment would give you useful context, but we would also consider relevant experience from adjacent public sector markets.
The exact product remit, account allocation, location requirements, sales target, remuneration package and reporting line are still being finalised. We will discuss those details transparently with candidates as the brief is confirmed.
