The Opportunity
A global renewable energy technology company is seeking a senior technical leader to build and lead its technical solutions capability in Australia.
The Head of Technical Solutions will act as the key technical interface between Australian customers, the local commercial team and global engineering specialists.
The role will support utility-scale wind projects from early project assessment and turbine selection through tendering, technical negotiations and project execution planning.
The successful candidate will combine strong wind turbine engineering knowledge with an understanding of Australian grid, technical standards and customer requirements, and will be comfortable representing the business in senior technical discussions with developers, consultants, utilities and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical solution development for utility-scale wind projects across Australia.
- Support projects from early-stage feasibility and turbine selection through bidding, contract negotiation and execution planning.
- Review customer specifications, tender documents and project requirements and develop competitive technical solutions.
- Act as the primary local technical interface for customers, developers, engineering consultants, utilities and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical inputs across wind resource and energy yield, turbine selection, site suitability, layout and micrositing, towers and foundations, electrical systems, grid connection, transport, installation and O&M considerations.
- Support the sales team during bids and commercial negotiations through technical risk assessment, compliance reviews and value engineering.
- Lead customer technical workshops, tender clarification meetings and technical presentations.
- Identify technical risks, deviations and opportunities within customer requirements.
- Work closely with global engineering teams to ensure Australian project requirements are properly understood and incorporated into solutions.
- Support Australian grid-related matters, including coordination with grid specialists and understanding of AEMO and NSP requirements.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with relevant Australian standards, regulations and certification requirements.
- Provide input into project economics, competitiveness and LCOE optimisation.
- Support product localisation and identify gaps between global turbine platforms and Australian market requirements.
- Track technology, competitor and market developments and provide feedback to global product and engineering teams.
- Support technical due diligence and customer enquiries throughout the project lifecycle.
- Help establish and develop local technical capability in Australia over time.
Experience & Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Ideally 10+ years of experience across wind energy, renewable energy engineering or technical solutions.
- Strong preference for candidates with previous experience within a wind turbine OEM.
- Demonstrated experience supporting utility-scale wind projects.
- Strong understanding of wind turbine technology, site suitability and technical solution development.
- Experience in tendering, bid support and customer-facing technical negotiations.
- Good understanding of Australian wind project development and delivery requirements.
- Knowledge of Australian grid connection requirements would be highly regarded, including exposure to:
- AEMO and NSP processes
- Generator Performance Standards
- Grid connection studies
- R0 / R1 / R2 project stages
- Power system modelling and compliance
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams across multiple countries and time zones.
- Strong technical risk assessment and problem-solving capability.
- Excellent customer-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex engineering requirements into practical and commercially competitive solutions.
- Experience working with international engineering organisations would be advantageous.
