The Opportunity
ITALIANS RESTAURANT is seeking an experienced and skilled Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time, permanent basis.
The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, food safety requirements and the restaurant's quality standards.
The position is suited to a Cook with relevant commercial kitchen experience, strong food preparation and cooking skills, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a busy restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of food in accordance with recipes, menu specifications and established standards.
- Prepare ingredients including meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces, pasta and other food products.
- Measure, portion and prepare ingredients accurately for cooking and service.
- Cook food using appropriate methods including grilling, frying, baking, roasting, boiling and sautéing.
- Prepare pasta, sauces, salads, appetisers, main courses and other menu items as required.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor cooking processes to ensure food is prepared to the required quality, temperature and presentation standards.
- Ensure meals are prepared within required service times.
- Maintain consistent portion sizes and food quality.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before preparation and use.
- Store food products appropriately and maintain stock rotation in accordance with food safety requirements.
- Monitor food supplies and notify management when stock needs to be replenished.
- Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, storage and portion control.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and food preparation area.
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.
- Comply with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient food service.
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries when required.
- Complete preparation and cooking duties within service deadlines.
- Follow restaurant procedures and maintain a high standard of food preparation and presentation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or Kitchen Management, or equivalent relevant training and experience.
- Relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial restaurant or similar food-service environment.
- Experience preparing Italian, Mediterranean or contemporary cuisine will be highly regarded.
- Ability to prepare and cook a range of dishes consistently and to a high standard.
- Ability to read and follow recipes, preparation instructions and menu specifications.
- Good knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Competence in using commercial kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
- Good time-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a kitchen team.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of stock rotation, portion control and minimising food waste.
