About the Role

Sam’s Cali Cantina is seeking an experienced Cook to join its kitchen team. The successful candidate will prepare and cook a range of menu items while maintaining consistent food quality, portioning and presentation and supporting efficient day-to-day kitchen operations.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus Superannuation

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a range of Californian-inspired and Mexican-style menu items in accordance with established recipes
  • Cook and assemble tacos, burgers, grilled and fried dishes, sides and other menu items to required quality standards
  • Monitor cooking processes and equipment temperatures to ensure food is prepared consistently and safely
  • Inspect ingredients and food products to ensure freshness and appropriate quality
  • Portion, season and present dishes in accordance with established restaurant standards
  • Prepare ingredients, sauces, fillings and accompaniments required for daily service
  • Monitor ingredient usage and assist with stock control and food ordering requirements
  • Store, handle and rotate food appropriately to maintain freshness and minimise wastage
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, cooking equipment and food storage areas
  • Work collaboratively with chefs and other kitchen staff to support efficient service during busy trading periods
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements at all times

Candidate Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related discipline or 3 years experience in the absence of relevant qualification
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen
  • Experience preparing Mexican, Californian, American-style or similar casual dining cuisine will be highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and commercial cooking techniques
  • Ability to maintain consistent food quality, portioning and presentation
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong teamwork, communication and organisational skills
