About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team. Operating from the historic Rob Roy Hotel on Halifax Street, our restaurant provides a vibrant dining experience with a contemporary Asian-influenced menu. We are looking for a reliable Cook who takes pride in food preparation, quality and consistency and can work effectively as part of a busy kitchen team.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes and menu requirements
  • Prepare ingredients, including washing, cutting, portioning and seasoning food
  • Operate grills, fryers, ovens, stovetops and other commercial kitchen equipment
  • Monitor food quality throughout preparation and cooking
  • Ensure meals are prepared consistently and presented to the required standard
  • Assist with stock rotation, storage and inventory control
  • Monitor ingredient levels and advise senior kitchen staff of stock requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and food preparation area
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Assist with preparation for functions and busy service periods
  • Work collaboratively with chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service
  • Minimise food wastage and ensure appropriate portion control

About you

  • Relevant commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent practical experience
  • Previous experience working as a Cook in a restaurant, hotel or similar commercial kitchen environment
  • Sound knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions and established kitchen procedures
  • A reliable, professional and team-focused approach
  • Availability to work across a flexible roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
