A metropolitan council to recruit an experienced Band 5/6 Statutory Planner to join their busy planning team.
This is a great opportunity for a planner with Victorian Local Government experience who enjoys the customer-facing side of planning. Alongside statutory planning duties, a key focus of the position will be providing clear and practical planning advice to residents, applicants and other members of the public across phone and general planning enquiries.
The Role Working within the Statutory Planning team, you will be responsible for:

  • Responding to planning enquiries from residents, applicants, developers and members of the public
  • Providing clear and professional planning advice over the phone and through written correspondence
  • Assisting customers to understand planning requirements, processes and relevant planning controls
  • Managing phone duties and general enquiries as part of the wider planning team
  • Assessing and determining planning permit applications as required
  • Preparing planning reports, recommendations, correspondence and notices
  • Undertaking site inspections and assessing proposals against relevant planning controls
  • Liaising with internal Council departments and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the resolution of planning matters and customer enquiries in a timely and professional manner

The position requires someone who can combine their technical statutory planning knowledge with strong customer service and communication skills, particularly when explaining planning matters to members of the community who may have limited knowledge of the planning system.
About You To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Previous Victorian Local Government statutory planning experience
  • Strong knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, processes and policies
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Confidence handling a high volume of phone and public planning enquiries
  • The ability to explain technical planning information clearly and professionally
  • Experience assessing planning applications and providing statutory planning advice
  • Strong written communication and stakeholder management skills
