Our client is a global equipment OEM manufacturing and supporting high-end, technically advanced equipment across Rail, Marine, Data Centres, Australian Army, Navy and Air Force applications.

We are now looking for an experienced State Service Manager to take ownership of a high-performing service operation and lead a specialist technical team across NSW.

This is a senior leadership position for an experienced Marine Technician, Service Manager, Workshop Manager or Technical Supervisor who has the technical credibility, structure and leadership capability to manage a complex service environment.

THE TEAM

You will lead and support a highly skilled team consisting of:

  • 2 x Service Supervisors
  • 14 x Technicians
  • 4 x Technical Advisors
  • 1 x Service Administrator
  • 3 x Navy Specialist Engineers based directly on Navy bases

You will be responsible for driving team performance, utilisation, productivity, technical standards and customer outcomes while developing the next generation of technical leaders.

THE ROLE

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the State Service operation and technical team
  • Managing team utilisation, productivity and P&L responsibility
  • Supporting and developing 2 Service Supervisors
  • Driving technician performance, efficiency and accountability
  • Managing training, development and technical capability across the team
  • Overseeing warranty processes and ensuring accurate warranty recovery
  • Maintaining high levels of technical and service quality
  • Conducting regular toolbox meetings and safety meetings
  • Driving a strong safety-first culture
  • Working closely with Technical Advisors, Engineers and OEM stakeholders
  • Supporting major Marine, Defence, Rail and critical infrastructure customers
  • Managing service priorities, resources and field support requirements
  • Ensuring the team operates within OEM processes, procedures and compliance requirements
  • Providing leadership to specialist engineers working directly from Navy bases

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a strong people leader with genuine technical credibility.
You will ideally come from a Marine/Defence technical background, with previous experience progressing from Technician into a supervisory or management position.

You will bring:

  • Previous experience as a Marine Technician, Marine Supervisor, Service Manager or Technical Manager
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • Excellent technical acumen
  • A highly structured and process-driven approach
  • Experience managing technicians and technical teams
  • Strong understanding of productivity, utilisation and service performance
  • Experience with warranty and OEM service processes
  • A strong focus on safety and compliance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • The ability to lead experienced technical people and hold them accountable
  • A calm, organised and professional management style
  • The ability to operate within a highly structured global OEM environment
