Senior Security Engineer

6 Month Contract | $950 + Super - Sydney CBD | Hybrid Working (50% Office Attendance)

Join a leading innovation and venture business that builds and supports a portfolio of digital ventures across a range of industries including financial services, payments, digital identity, property and consumer technology.Working within a small, highly capable Security team, you'll play a key role in protecting modern cloud-based environments while partnering closely with engineering and product teams to embed security into the way technology is designed, built and operated.

Your new role

As a Senior Security Engineer, you'll be responsible for improving security capabilities across cloud platforms, security operations, identity and DevSecOps practices.This is a hands-on technical role where you'll work across multiple ventures, helping teams strengthen their security posture while balancing speed, innovation and risk.
Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting and enhancing Microsoft security capabilities including Defender, Sentinel and Entra ID
• Designing and implementing cloud security controls across AWS and Azure environments
• Improving threat detection, monitoring and security operations processes
• Supporting incident response, vulnerability management and remediation activities
• Building security automation using Python, PowerShell and cloud-native tooling
• Working with engineering teams to embed security within CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines
• Supporting identity and access management initiatives, including Conditional Access and privileged access controls
• Leveraging Infrastructure as Code practices using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
• Providing security guidance across multiple product and engineering teams

What you'll need to succeed

• Demonstrated experience as a Security Engineer, Cloud Security Engineer or similar
• Strong experience with the Microsoft Security Suite, including:
  • Microsoft Defender
  • Microsoft Sentinel
  • Microsoft Entra ID
• Hands-on AWS security experience
• Background in Security Operations, SOC, Incident Response or Detection Engineering
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Strong scripting and automation capabilities using Python and/or PowerShell
• Experience working within DevSecOps environments
• Exposure to cloud security platforms such as Wiz will be highly regarded
• Ability to operate autonomously and manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment
• Previous experience within financial services, fintech or highly regulated environments is advantageous
