About the Role
The Seafood Process Worker will be responsible for preparing and processing seafood products in accordance with workplace procedures and food safety requirements. The role involves cleaning, scaling, filleting, cutting, grading and packaging seafood, while maintaining a clean, safe and efficient processing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect and prepare fresh seafood for processing and sale.
- Scale, clean, fillet, cut and shell fish and shellfish according to required specifications.
- Grade seafood based on size, quality and freshness.
- Weigh, pack, label and store seafood products in accordance with company procedures.
- Operate basic seafood processing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, workplace safety and cleanliness.
- Clean and sanitise processing equipment, utensils and work areas.
- Follow quality-control procedures and report any damaged or unsuitable seafood.
Required Qualifications
- No formal qualification is mandatory for this Skill Level 5 occupation.
- AQF Certificate I or equivalent food-processing training would be desirable.
- Food safety or food-handling training would be advantageous.
- Relevant workplace health and safety training is desirable.
Required Experience
- Previous one year or more experience in seafood processing, food preparation or a similar food-processing environment is desirable.
- Experience handling, cleaning, cutting or preparing seafood will be highly regarded.
- Experience working in a fast-paced commercial food environment is advantageous.
- On-the-job training may be provided where appropriate.
Required Skills
- Ability to safely handle and prepare fish and shellfish.
- Basic skills in scaling, cleaning, filleting, cutting and shelling seafood.
- Good attention to product quality, freshness and presentation.
- Ability to follow food safety, hygiene and workplace safety procedures.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to follow workplace procedures.
