Programmed has an exciting opportunity for a School Based Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology Apprenticeship in the Toowoomba region.
We are seeking applicants who have a passion for mechanics, enjoy hands-on work and have a positive 'can-do' attitude with a willingness to learn.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will be hosted with RoadTek, a major Civil Construction organisation that provides excellent mentoring and training while encouraging teamwork and innovation. RoadTek provides transport infrastructure solutions throughout Queensland as a commercial business within the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
The partnership between Programmed and RoadTek will support you throughout your apprenticeship, with ongoing mentoring and guidance from trade-qualified personnel to help you build a successful career in the mechanical industry.
Duties and benefits within this apprenticeship may include:
- Inspecting, servicing and repairing plant machinery and equipment
- Diagnosing and repairing braking and steering systems
- Inspecting, servicing and repairing cooling, emissions and air-conditioning systems
- Properly maintaining tools, materials and equipment
- Assisting with light fabrication work
- Using a range of hand and power tools
- Assisting with keeping workshops and surrounding areas clean and tidy
- Assisting with maintaining daily records of plant, labour and materials used
- Paid Annual Leave, Sick Leave and Public Holidays

Mandatory Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in and completing Year 10 in 2026
- Commencing Year 11 in 2027
- Passion and genuine interest in mechanics
- Construction White Card (can be completed prior to commencement)
- Motivated and willing to learn
- Reliable, with a positive attitude
- Driver's Licence and reliable transport
- Flexible and available to work both day and night shifts if required
- Competent numeracy and literacy skills
- Able to undertake TAFE studies and complete them to a satisfactory level within the required timeframe
- Ability to comply with safety procedures and Workplace Health and Safety requirements
- Must live within the Toowoomba region
TAFE Studies:
TAFE studies will be completed in blocks through TAFE Queensland. Commitment to both your on-the-job training and TAFE studies is essential for successful progression through the apprenticeship.
Location:
While the apprenticeship is based at a workshop in Toowoomba, you may be required to work in other regions across Queensland to gain the full range of trade experience throughout your apprenticeship. This may include working away on projects where required by the business, so flexibility is essential.
Applicants must live within the Toowoomba region.
Prior to an offer of employment, the successful applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment to confirm they are fit for work, including a drug and alcohol screen.
