Our client, Magill Grain Store, specialises in animal and bird feed, grains, hay, pet supplies, seeds, fertilisers, compost, garden mulch and other gardening products. Located in Magill, South Australia, they are known for their friendly service, knowledgeable staff and competitive prices. The business caters to pet owners, backyard gardeners and landscaping professionals, offering practical solutions for animal care and garden maintenance.
They are currently looking for a Retail Manager to join their team.You will be overseeing the overall operations of a store to ensure efficient service, overseeing store operations, ensuring accurate pricing, display and customer satisfaction. The role involves managing staff, maintaining operational standards and ensuring the profitability of the business.
The annual salary for this full-time position is $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation.
Duties will include:
- Determining the optimal product mix, stock levels and service quality standards for the store to align with customer needs and sales targets.
- Formulating and implementing purchasing policies and local operational strategies, including selecting suppliers, negotiating supply terms, placing orders and monitoring cost efficiency to maintain store profitability.
- Setting retail prices for the store’s product range, having regard to supplier costs, competitor pricing and margin targets.
- Developing and implementing promotional campaigns and local marketing activities to promote the store’s goods and services, drive customer traffic and increase revenue.
- Monitoring sales performance and adjusting product, pricing and promotional strategies in response.
- Overseeing day-to-day store operations, including pricing, product displays, service standards and consistent availability of the store’s product range.
- Selling goods to customers and advising them on product selection and use, including animal feed, pet supplies, seeds, fertilisers and gardening products.
- Maintaining accurate records of stock levels, inventory movements, financial transactions and daily sales.
- Preparing and managing the store’s budget, monitoring expenses and ensuring cost efficiency in operations.
- Controlling the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of staff, including rostering and performance management, to deliver high-quality service and uphold the company’s operational standards.
- Implementing and enforcing work health and safety and environmental regulations to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.
- Coordinating stock deliveries through the store’s supplier network, verifying the quality and quantity of goods received, and managing stock levels to minimise waste and ensure consistent product availability.
- Identifying opportunities for business growth and operational improvement to enhance customer satisfaction and profitability.
Requirements:
- Must have at least a Diploma in a relevant field.
- Should have a minimum of one to two (1-2) years of similar experience.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure during busy trading periods.
- Ability to quickly resolve operational issues, staffing challenges and customer concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks such as staff scheduling, stock management and service operations efficiently.
