Salary Range: AUD $80,000 – $85,000 + superannuation

We are seeking an experienced Painting Trades Worker to join our team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paint and decorative finishes, wallpapering, maintaining painting equipment and ensuring work areas are kept clean and safe.
About the Role and Responsibilities
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Painting Trades Worker to join our team. As the Painting Trades Worker, you will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paints and other finishes, installing wallpaper, maintaining painting equipment and ensuring work areas are kept clean and safe.
Tasks Include:
- Prepare surfaces by filling cracks, holes and joints with putty, plaster or other suitable fillers using putty knives and caulking tools.
- Smooth and prepare surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes and other appropriate tools.
- Protect windows, furniture and surrounding areas using plastic covering sheets, drop sheets and adhesive tape to prevent paint splashes and damage.
- Repair woodwork, fill holes and cracks, and smooth timber surfaces before applying paint or other finishes.
- Position ladders safely and arrange the required tools and equipment for painting and surface preparation work.
- Remove old wallpaper and paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, cleaning fluids, steam, sandpaper and other appropriate methods.
- Select and prepare paints and coatings to achieve the required colours and finishes.
- Apply paints, varnishes, stains and other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers and other appropriate application methods in accordance with customer and supervisor requirements.
- Measure, cut and install wallpaper accurately, including matching patterns, trimming edges and applying wallpaper paste.
- Smooth and finish wallpaper using appropriate brushes, plastic smoothers and other tools to achieve an even finish.
- Clean work areas, tools and equipment upon completion of painting and decorating activities.
- Identify, safely handle and appropriately dispose of paints, preparatory materials, undercoatings and other hazardous substances in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Qualification and Employment
- A minimum Certificate III or equivalent qualification in Painting and Decorating, Painting and Decorating Trades, or a related field.
- Relevant practical experience may be considered in lieu of the formal qualification, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience where the required qualification is not held.
- Minimum one (1) year of recent relevant full-time experience working as a Painting Trades Worker, Painter, Decorator or in a closely related role.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation, painting and decorative finishing techniques.
- Ability to prepare, mix and apply paints, varnishes, stains and other coatings using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake wallpaper installation, including measuring, cutting, pattern matching and trimming.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to achieving quality finishes.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, including the safe handling and disposal of paints, chemicals and other hazardous materials.
- Ability to safely use ladders, painting equipment, hand tools and surface preparation equipment.
- Good time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and complete work within required timeframes.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors, customers and other workers.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated practical problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and address surface preparation and painting issues.
- Current driver's licence is essential.
- White Card is required.
- Basic English communication skills required for workplace safety, following instructions and effective communication onsite.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends and public holidays, where required.
