Worldwide Metal Scrap Pty Ltd is a well-established, family-run recycling business operating in New South Wales since 2009. Headquartered in Seven Hills with additional operations in Wyong, they specialise in the purchase, sale, and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals including copper, aluminium, brass, lead, stainless steel, and cables.
Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the mechanical engineering requirements of Worldwide Metal Scrap Pty Ltd.’s scrap-metal recycling and site-clearance operations. The position focuses on the design, assessment, modification, installation, inspection and maintenance of mechanical plant, equipment and systems used in metal handling and recycling activities. The role also contributes to improving equipment performance, material flow, operational efficiency and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop mechanical equipment, components and modifications for plant and machinery used in scrap-metal handling, processing, cutting, shearing, baling and material preparation operations.
• Assess existing mechanical plant and equipment and develop engineering solutions to improve equipment performance, reliability, capacity, safety and operational efficiency.
• Develop mechanical specifications for new equipment, equipment modifications and plant upgrades, including determining appropriate materials, equipment capacities, mechanical components and operating requirement.
• Assess and optimise the layout of mechanical plant, processing equipment and material-handling systems to improve material flow, equipment utilisation and the efficient movement of scrap metal through receiving, sorting, processing and storage areas.
• Determine appropriate mechanical equipment and components for the handling, sorting, processing and storage of different scrap-metal materials.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications and documentation associated with mechanical equipment, plant modifications and maintenance works.
• Coordinate the delivery, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment and components, including liaising with contractors and suppliers.
• Organise and coordinate labour, materials, equipment and contractors required for mechanical installation, modification and maintenance projects.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards and procedures for equipment installation, modification, testing, inspection, quality control and maintenance.
• Inspect mechanical plant, machinery and equipment to identify defects, wear, damage, performance issues and potential safety risks.
• Monitor the operating performance of mechanical equipment and recommend corrective actions to maintain reliable and efficient operation.
• Develop and maintain preventative and corrective maintenance schedules for mechanical plant, machinery and equipment.
• Coordinate the maintenance, repair and modification of mechanical equipment and associated plant infrastructure.
• Investigate mechanical faults and equipment failures, identify root causes and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
• Coordinate surveys, inspections and technical assessments required for new equipment, plant modifications and ongoing maintenance.
• Ensure mechanical engineering activities comply with applicable Australian Standards, workplace health and safety requirements and relevant engineering principles.
• Maintain technical records, inspection reports, maintenance documentation and engineering specifications relating to plant and equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, material flow and overall productivity within the recycling operation.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications Required
• A bachelor degree or higher qualification

• Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
Experience Required
• At least one year of relevant experience in a similar field.

Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 per year plus superannuation
