Job Description

Location: Sydney

Role Highlights: A rare opportunity to step into a newly created Head of Legal role and build a function from the ground up within a large, established national business. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will take ownership of a broad generalist remit and have a direct impact on how the organisation manages its legal risk.

Role Overview

Reo Group is partnering with a well-regarded national services business to recruit a Head of Legal. This is a brand new role, created to carve the legal function out of the CFO's remit as the workload has grown beyond what one person can manage. You will report directly to the CFO, take day-to-day ownership of the function, and work closely with senior leaders and regional managers across the business. The role sits within a close-knit, high-performing finance team and has no direct reports at this stage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end review and negotiation of commercial contracts across a high-volume, multi-region pipeline.
  • Provide generalist employment and HR legal support across a large, field-based workforce, including Fair Work and workers compensation matters.
  • Support dispute management, including coordinating with external counsel and building internal legal briefs.
  • Develop and embed the legal frameworks, policies and processes the function needs as it matures.
  • Build trusted relationships with regional sales leaders and general managers to manage the contract funnel effectively.

Candidate Profile

  • Senior lawyer with strong contract review and negotiation experience, capable of working independently from day one.
  • Commercial and pragmatic judgement, with the ability to assess risk practically and adapt approach to the situation.
  • Generalist HR and employment exposure, including Fair Work and workers compensation, is highly regarded.
  • Private practice and in-house backgrounds are both welcome; the role requires presence and gravitas to work with a senior leadership team.
  • Enthusiastic, ownership-driven, and comfortable asking questions and learning in a fast-moving environment.
