Role Description:

We have a new opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) Acquisition program based at either Melbourne CBD or Edinburgh, Adelaide locations.  Reporting to the Product Safety Manager, you will be part of an inclusive and supportive team, and will join our growing business in an exciting time on a permanent and full time basis.  A part time arrangement will also be considered.

Core Duties:

• Undertake safety engineering (Safety In Design/System Safety/Product Safety) activities including the management of hazards: identification, assessment and mitigation of hazards
• Develop and update safety engineering artefacts including system safety program plans, hazard analysis reports, hazard logs and safety case reports to ensure risks are reduced
• Support other product delivery teams with the delivery of safety engineering solutions and provide recommendations for using safety engineering methodology
• Act as point of contact and provide technical advice on safety engineering activities, collaborating effectively and build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Participate in the identification, preparation and review of problem reports, variances (waivers and deviations) and engineering changes to assess potential safety impacts
• Undertake the development and maintenance of product safety risk assessments
• Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve safety engineering practices

Essential Skills:

• Safety engineering experience or engineering/manufacturing experience with knowledge of safety engineering
• A relevant engineering or manufacturing/trade qualification
• Knowledge of the engineering systems development lifecycle, and an understanding/awareness of safety engineering standards
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
• Good problem solving skills and the ability to produce effective technical reports
• Whilst not essential, defence industry experience will be highly regarded

The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence radar system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief, and rescue operations.
