Senior Mining Engineer – Open Pit

Mining Employment Services is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to be part of a well-established gold mining operation in Western Australia. In this technical role, you will be responsible for open-pit mine planning, production scheduling, and operational optimisation, contributing to safe and efficient mining outcomes.
Working closely with teams in geology, survey, drill and blast, and production, you will ensure that mine plans align with production targets and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short-, medium- and long-term open-pit mine plans and production schedules.
- Design and optimise open-pit stages, pit designs, haul roads and mining sequences.
- Prepare production forecasts, budgets and mine planning reports.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure effective execution of mine plans.
- Monitor production performance against targets and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support annual budgeting, life-of-mine planning and reserve optimisation activities.
- Ensure mine designs and schedules comply with safety, environmental and operational requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the broader mining engineering team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across planning and production processes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in open-pit mining engineering, ideally within the gold sector.
- Strong technical capabilities in mine design, scheduling and production planning.
- Experience using mining software such as Deswik, Surpac or similar packages.
- A sound understanding of open-pit mining methods, drill and blast interfaces and operational constraints.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with operational stakeholders and deliver practical, commercially focused solutions.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and operational excellence.
