About the Role
Ready for a new challenge without leaving your trade behind? Bring your carpentry experience to Swinburne and help shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople. We’re looking for an experienced carpenter who’s passionate about sharing their knowledge, mentoring students and making a real difference.

You’ll deliver hands-on training across our Certificate II in Building and Construction program including our pre-apprenticeship and VETiS courses as well as the cert III apprenticeship program. You’ll help secondary school students and career changers develop the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed in the industry.

This is your chance to turn years on the tools into a rewarding new career. Join a collaborative team where your industry expertise matters, your ideas are valued and you can help shape the future of carpentry.

You don’t need to leave your industry experience behind to take the next step in your career. At Swinburne, you can put it to work in a new way — mentoring emerging talent, passing on the knowledge that matters and helping shape the future of carpentry.

About You
You’re an experienced carpenter who takes pride in your trade and enjoys helping others learn. You hold a Certificate III in Carpentry and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116), with current industry experience and the ability to deliver engaging, practical and inclusive training.

  • You know how to make carpentry training practical, engaging and relevant, and can adapt your teaching to suit different learning environments.
  • You can create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to learn and succeed.
  • You enjoy developing useful training and assessment materials and finding ways to make teaching and learning even better.
  • You work well with others, build strong relationships with colleagues and aren’t afraid to share ideas for improvement.
  • You’re keen to keep learning, develop your teaching skills and stay up to date with contemporary VET practices.
  • You communicate clearly, enjoy mentoring apprentices and are committed to giving students a positive learning experience.
  • You’re comfortable using everyday technology, including email, databases, Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
  • You bring current, hands-on carpentry industry experience and practical knowledge of the trade.
