Job description

St Aloysius College, North Melbourne warmly invites applications for a scribe to support in the VCE General Mathematics exam under VCAA special exam provisions. The successful applicant must possess a sound understanding of mathematical concepts covered in VCE General Mathematics and be comfortable with Maths notation, symbols and terminology.

The scribe's primary responsibility is to accurately record the student's responses while ensuring that the student remains fully responsible for the content and ideas expressed in their answers. The scribe must provide support in a way that preserves the integrity, fairness, and confidentiality of the examination.

Key role responsibilities

  • Write or type the student's answers exactly as dictated
  • Record answers at a pace that allows the student to communicate their ideas comfortably
  • Ensure that all dictated information is captured accurately
  • Follow the student's instructions regarding numbering, diagrams, tables, or other formatting where permitted as well as changing answers or making corrections
  • Ask the student to repeat or clarify something if it cannot be heard or understood
  • Re-read the student responses for editing purposes, if requested by the student
  • Ensure that the student remains the author of all responses
  • Listen carefully and attentively to the student
  • Arrive punctually and be familiar with the examination procedures

The successful applicant will:

  • Be fluent in English
  • Possess a sound understanding of mathematical concepts covered in the VCE General Mathematics Unit 3-4 Study Design
  • Possess excellent listening skills
  • Possess accurate and legible handwriting skills
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Be patient, calm and sensitive to the student's requirements
  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Exercise professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
  • Possess the ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Provide a copy of current Working with Children Check or current VIT registration.

Details

When: Friday 30th October and Monday 2nd November (please note public holiday on 3rd November)

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes per exam

Locations: 73 Boundary Road, North Melbourne and 31 Curran Street, North Melbourne

Additional Hours:

The College wishes to engage the successful applicant in a further 6 hours in the lead up to exams.

Possibility of further casual work as exam supervisor (separate to scribing) over the November exam period.
