The Opportunity
At Shine, we right wrong for our clients. And as a full-time, permanent Legal Assistant or Senior Legal Assistant in our Abuse Law team based in either our Melbourne CBD or Dandenong team (up to you), that starts with you. You’ll work closely with our legal team to make a meaningful, long-lasting impact for our clients.
This unique role has a strong client focus, with a significant amount of regular client contact. It is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Paralegal who is wanting to stretch themselves, and take even more ownership of client matters.
With empathy, adaptability and initiative, you'll support our clients by:
- Working with our solicitors to successfully support them with day-to-day operations of progressing legal matters.
- Preparing matters for conference and hearing, with high attention to detail.
- Drafting legal documents and briefs, such as claim forms, schedule of damages and general correspondence.
- Efficiently coordinating medico-legal appointments, compulsory conferences and mediations.
- Cultivating strong relationships with our clients, counsel and other external stakeholders.
- Supporting our legal team by accurately using and maintaining MatterSphere to record, process and manage information across abuse law claims.
What you’ll bring
- Previous experience in a paralegal or legal secretary role, ideally with previous exposure to personal injury or abuse law.
- The empathy and resilience to work in a team where clients may have undergone significant trauma.
- Accurate typing skills with intermediate Word & Excel skills.
- Attention to detail in your document management, drafting and collation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- You’ll recognise and value the importance of your role in being the gateway to support our clients.
- Supporting our legal team by accurately using and maintaining MatterSphere to record, process and manage information across institutional abuse law matters.
- The ability to work 38 hours per week, between the hours of 8:15am – 5pm Monday to Friday. And if you prefer four days, let's talk!
