To support our ongoing business operations and commitment to customer satisfaction, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to manage the day-to-day retail operations of our business on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing retail operations, managing stock and supplier relationships, implementing pricing and promotional strategies, supervising staff, monitoring financial performance and ensuring efficient business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the daily retail operations of Westgarth Fish and Chips to ensure efficient, organised and profitable business performance.
• Determine the range of takeaway food products, stock requirements, inventory levels and customer service standards in accordance with customer demand and business objectives.
• Develop and implement purchasing procedures, coordinate procurement of food products, packaging materials and other operational supplies, and maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
• Review supplier pricing, negotiate purchasing arrangements and establish appropriate retail pricing strategies to maintain competitive prices and achieve business profitability.
• Plan and implement promotional initiatives, seasonal specials, takeaway meal deals, local advertising and social media marketing activities to attract customers and increase sales.
• Maintain high standards of customer service by responding to customer enquiries, resolving complaints, managing customer feedback and ensuring a positive customer experience.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, stock movements, supplier purchases, daily sales transactions, cash handling and other retail operational activities.
• Prepare and monitor store budgets, operating expenses, sales performance and financial reports to achieve business targets and improve operational efficiency.
• Recruit, train, roster, supervise and evaluate retail staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, effective delegation of duties and consistent service standards.
• Establish and maintain store operating procedures to ensure efficient workflow, effective coordination between food preparation and customer service activities, and timely order fulfilment.
• Monitor product demand, stock usage, wastage and purchasing costs, implementing appropriate inventory control measures to minimise losses and improve profitability.
• Oversee retail presentation, product displays, promotional signage, point-of-sale operations and cleanliness of customer-facing areas.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, applicable food safety standards, hygiene procedures, employment obligations and relevant regulatory requirements.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, applicants should possess:

• A relevant Diploma or higher qualification in Retail Management, Business Management, Hospitality Management or a closely related field, or substantial relevant industry experience.
• At least one year of relevant full-time experience in retail management, preferably within a takeaway food, quick-service restaurant, fast-food or similar retail food business.
• Demonstrated experience in managing daily retail operations, staff supervision and customer service.
• Strong knowledge of stock management, purchasing, supplier coordination and inventory control.
• Experience in budgeting, financial monitoring, retail pricing and sales performance management.
• Strong leadership, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage staff rosters, coordinate day-to-day operations and maintain efficient service delivery in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound understanding of food safety, workplace health and safety and hygiene requirements relevant to retail food operations.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain high operational standards.
