HSE Manager – Major Energy Infrastructure Projects

Surat Basin | 19:9 Roster | $200,000 Base + 15% Site Uplift

  • Two senior HSE leadership appointments

  • Long-term energy infrastructure projects

  • Lead safety strategy, systems and site-based delivery

Some HSE roles are focused on maintaining systems.

This one is about leading them.

We are supporting a major energy infrastructure contractor with the appointment of two experienced HSE Managers across long-term gas infrastructure projects in Queensland’s Surat Basin.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will lead the project HSE function and provide visible, practical leadership across a large, multidisciplinary workforce. You will need the confidence to influence senior project stakeholders, challenge where necessary and ensure that safety systems translate into consistent standards on site.

This is a genuine HSE leadership position requiring substantial experience within oil and gas, mining or heavy infrastructure construction.

The role

You will take responsibility for the development, implementation and continual improvement of project-specific HSE systems, procedures and initiatives.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary site-based HSE team

  • Providing expert HSE advice to project leadership, supervisors and the wider workforce

  • Driving compliance with project, client, legislative and regulatory requirements

  • Conducting assurance activities, audits, inspections and investigations

  • Promoting visible safety leadership through training, toolbox talks and workforce engagement

  • Monitoring contractor and subcontractor HSE performance

  • Identifying emerging risks and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented

  • Supporting environmental compliance across construction activities

  • Maintaining disciplined onboarding and mobilisation practices

  • Managing internal KPIs, client reporting and regulatory notifications

  • Building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and proactive risk management

About you

You will be an established HSE leader who understands the realities of delivering complex construction work in a high-risk, operational environment.

To be considered, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 7–10 years’ experience in HSE leadership roles

  • Experience within oil and gas, mining, pipelines or heavy infrastructure projects

  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary HSE teams

  • Strong knowledge of Queensland HSE legislation and regulatory requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Environmental Management or a related discipline

  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills

  • The confidence to engage effectively with project leadership, clients, contractors and frontline teams

  • A practical, visible and collaborative approach to safety leadership

  • ICAM or equivalent incident-investigation training will be highly regarded

This role will not suit someone looking to make their first move from HSE Advisor into management. You must be able to demonstrate credible leadership of both people and project-level HSE performance.

The opportunity

These are long-term appointments offering the opportunity to take a leading role on major Queensland energy infrastructure projects.

You will receive:

  • A base salary of $200,000

  • A 15% site uplift

  • A 19:9 site roster

  • Long-term project continuity

  • The opportunity to influence safety performance across complex, high-profile construction programs

Applications will be treated in strict confidence.
