Safety Advisor - Wendouree

The Opportunity

Ventia manages one of Victoria’s most significant road maintenance portfolios, the Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (VRMC) on behalf of Transport for Victoria. Through this partnership, we deliver essential maintenance and operational services that keep Victoria’s road network safe, reliable and connected.

We’re looking for an experienced Safety Advisor based in Wendouree to play a key role in shaping and strengthening our safety culture. Working closely with operational teams, you’ll provide practical safety leadership, influence positive behaviours and drive continuous improvement across critical infrastructure works.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on stakeholder engagement, coaching, risk management, auditing, incident investigation and safety reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with operational teams to promote safe work practices and positive safety behaviours.
• Provide practical safety advice across road maintenance and construction activities.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, safety observations and risk assessments.
• Identify hazards, manage risks and drive practical safety improvements.
• Support the implementation of Ventia's SHEQ systems, programs and procedures.
• Assist with incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety communications and awareness initiatives.
• Monitor compliance with legislative, contractual and company requirements.
• Analyse safety trends and provide meaningful performance reporting.
• Support change, build stakeholder buy-in and promote continuous improvement.

About You

To be successful, you will have:

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent.
• Seasoned experience as a Safety Advisor, Safety Coordinator, SHEQ Advisor or similar.
• Experience in civil construction, infrastructure, roads, transport, utilities or a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management, particularly in live traffic environments.
• Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to build trust, influence and gain buy-in for change.
• Experience in audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
• A willingness to learn and an approachable, supportive style.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility to travel across a broad area and undertake occasional night work.
