Senior Software Engineer (.NET / Azure)

Sydney | Permanent | Hybrid - 2 days in office | $165k + package

This is an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to take real ownership of an important engineering space within a large, complex technology environment.

You won’t be joining simply to pick up tickets and deliver someone else’s technical decisions. You’ll have the opportunity to understand the problems, make sound engineering decisions, build high-quality software and increasingly influence the technical direction of the team.

For the right person, there is a clear path to grow into a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer-level role over the next 1–2 years, with the opportunity to influence architecture, uplift other engineers and take greater ownership of how the team builds and delivers software.

You’ll be working on enterprise-scale, highly available and real-time systems, where good engineering decisions genuinely matter.

What you’ll be doing:

• Build and maintain scalable applications using C#/.NET and Azure
• Develop APIs and services with a focus on quality, reliability and maintainability
• Work with SQL databases, including data modelling and performance
• Build and support cloud-native, event-driven systems
• Work with technologies such as Azure Service Bus and Event Hub
• Contribute to technical design and architecture decisions
• Work within Agile delivery practices, including planning, code reviews and continuous delivery
• Take increasing ownership of technical problems and their solutions
• Help uplift engineering practices and capability across the team

We’re looking for strong engineering fundamentals, but just as importantly, someone with the ownership, curiosity and ambition to grow.

• Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET
• Solid experience with SQL databases
• Experience with Azure or other cloud-native environments
• Enterprise-scale application development experience
• Experience with Agile software delivery
• Experience working with highly available, real-time or distributed systems
• Strong engineering fundamentals and first-principles thinking
• Good judgement around when to introduce complexity and when to keep things simple
• A genuine desire to grow toward technical leadership

Nice to have:

• MongoDB / NoSQL
• Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
• Trunk-based development
• Distributed systems / microservices
• Event-driven architecture

This role isn’t about having the longest technology list on your CV.

We want someone who takes ownership, asks good questions, learns quickly and understands why they are building something, not just how to build it.

You’ll be comfortable operating in a large enterprise environment while still challenging the status quo and looking for better ways to solve problems.

We’re open to different levels of technical depth around architecture. Strong coding, cloud and database fundamentals are essential, but we’ll take genuine potential and hunger to grow over someone who simply has more years on their CV.
