This is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join a Queensland Government organisation on an initial 3-month temporary contract. Working within a Financial Accounting team in Brisbane CBD, you will provide high-level financial support across a broad range of accounting functions, helping to maintain accurate financial records, reporting, compliance and financial operations.
Your new role
As the Senior Finance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting financial accounting operations while ensuring compliance with government policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing month-end processes, including accruals, journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Supporting financial reporting activities and maintaining accurate financial records
- Assisting with taxation-related obligations, including GST and FBT requirements
- Investigating and resolving complex financial discrepancies and accounting queries
- Supporting the preparation of financial statements and statutory reporting requirements
- Providing financial advice and support to internal stakeholders across the organisation
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and procedures
- Assisting with day-to-day financial accounting activities and supporting broader team initiatives as required
What you'll need to succeed
Demonstrated experience in a Senior Finance Officer, Financial Accountant or similar rolePrevious Queensland Government or wider public sector finance experience is highly regardedStrong understanding of financial accounting principles, reconciliations and month-end processesExperience preparing journals, maintaining financial records and supporting financial reporting activitiesKnowledge of GST, FBT and financial governance requirementsExperience using TechnologyOne and ExpenseMe financial management systemsHigh attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent stakeholder engagement, written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage competing priorities and work autonomously within a fast-paced environmentWhat you'll get in return
