About the Role
Erina Post and News is seeking an experienced Retail Manager to oversee its daily retail operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing stock levels, purchasing, product presentation, retail sales performance, customer service standards and staff activities.
The position involves planning and controlling the newsagency's retail operations, monitoring financial performance, coordinating purchasing and promotional activities, and ensuring that retail and associated postal services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with applicable operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and oversee the daily retail operations of the newsagency, ensuring efficient store activities, appropriate product availability and consistent customer service standards.
- Determine the retail product range and stock levels for newspapers, magazines, stationery, greeting cards, lottery products and other merchandise based on customer demand, sales performance and seasonal requirements.
- Develop and implement purchasing arrangements, coordinate supplier orders and monitor deliveries to maintain adequate stock availability while controlling excess inventory.
- Review retail pricing, product margins and promotional opportunities, and implement appropriate pricing and merchandising strategies within authorised business arrangements.
- Monitor daily sales, operating expenses and retail performance, prepare budgets and identify opportunities to improve profitability and cost control.
- Maintain and review records of stock movements, supplier purchases, retail transactions, cash reconciliation and other financial activities to support accurate business reporting.
- Plan and implement in-store promotions, product displays and seasonal merchandising activities to improve customer engagement and retail sales.
- Manage staff rosters, allocate duties and oversee the recruitment, induction, training and supervision of retail employees according to operational requirements.
- Establish and monitor customer service procedures, address escalated customer enquiries and complaints, and maintain appropriate standards across the newsagency and associated service counters.
- Coordinate the operational requirements of the postal service counter, including staff readiness, transaction procedures and compliance with applicable Australia Post requirements.
- Oversee the handling and sale of lottery products, ensuring relevant staff follow applicable retailer procedures, transaction controls and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor store security, cash-handling practices, workplace health and safety procedures and general retail compliance, implementing corrective measures where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Retail Management, Business Management or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience in retail management, store operations or a comparable retail leadership position.
- Demonstrated ability to manage daily retail operations, staff activities, stock levels and customer service standards.
- Experience in newsagency, convenience retail, stationery, lottery retail or a similar customer-facing retail environment will be highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of retail purchasing, supplier coordination, inventory management, pricing and merchandising.
- Ability to monitor sales performance, manage operating budgets, review financial records and implement cost-control measures.
- Experience supervising retail employees, preparing rosters, allocating responsibilities and providing staff training.
- Understanding of postal retail services, lottery retail procedures and associated operational requirements will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in point-of-sale systems, stock management procedures and general retail reporting.
- Strong leadership, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing operational priorities and maintain consistent service standards in a busy retail environment.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety, cash-handling and retail compliance requirements.
