Who are we?

Standards Australia (SA) is the peak standards development organisation in Australia, with a rich history that dates back to 1922. We proudly employ over 200 professionals dedicated to helping shape Australia’s future and enabling the safe and sustainable progress of Australian communities.

Our organisation brings experts together to create national and international standards that serve as essential guidelines for products and services, ultimately benefiting the Australian community. Our vision is to be the trusted voice that delivers confidence in a changing world.

About the role

As Payments Specialist, you will take ownership of Standards Australia's end-to-end Procure-to-Pay process, ensuring payments are accurate, compliant, and delivered efficiently. Beyond processing transactions, you will play a key role in identifying issues, investigating root causes, improving workflows, and facilitating enhancements in financial controls.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to solve problems, streamline processes, support system enhancements, and assist with implementation of automation initiatives. The role will also contribute to month-end activities and reporting.

We're looking for someone who enjoys improving the way things work, and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining strong financial governance.

What you’ll do

  • Being the first point of contact for all internal and external accounts payable queries
  • Manage supplier master data, including ABN validation and banking change controls.
  • Manage Purchase Orders and work with stakeholders to improve purchasing discipline and compliance.
  • Processing of payments ensuring compliance to delegation of authority, coding, and approvals. Payments include creditors and remittances (e.g., taxes, SGC), including foreign currency payments and Recipient Created Tax Invoices (RCTIs)
  • Investigate payment, supplier, invoice and system discrepancies and drive issues through to resolution
  • Monitor outstanding liabilities, aged creditors, and payment exceptions, proactively identifying and escalating risks
  • Administer employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card programs
  • Support management of bank balances, cash movements and payment controls
  • Prepare month-end journals, reconciliations and reporting relating to accounts payable and employee expenses
  • Contribute to system upgrades, automation initiatives and process improvement projects across Finance
  • Create and maintain process documentation, controls and workflow procedures
  • Provide support to payroll processing and related activities as required

About you

You are naturally curious, analytical and enjoy solving problems. Rather than simply processing transactions, you actively look for ways to improve systems, remove inefficiencies and deliver better outcomes for stakeholders.

You will also bring:

  • 5+ years' experience in Procure-to-Pay, Accounts Payable or Payments functions within a medium to large Australian organisation
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
  • Strong experience managing end-to-end payment cycles and high-volume transaction processing
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve issues
  • Hands-on experience administering employee expenses and corporate credit card programs
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, SAP, Oracle or similar
  • Exposure to OCR, workflow automation or digital finance transformation initiatives will be highly regarded
  • Intermediate to Advance Excel skills including data analysis and reconciliation techniques
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Exposure to payroll processes is advantageous
  • A proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge existing processes and recommend improvements

What will make you successful?

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy investigating issues and finding practical solutions
  • Take ownership and work independently
  • Have a strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Are comfortable working with systems, data and new technologies
  • Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
