Hays is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join a manufacturing business' finance team on a temporary and part time basis. This opportunity is initially expected to run through to the Christmas period, with strong potential for extension beyond the initial term.This role will suit a hands-on payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely payroll services while providing excellent support to employees and stakeholders.
Your new role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and in line with legislative requirements.Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing end-to-end payroll for a large and diverse workforce
  • Managing payroll enquiries and providing support to employees and managers
  • Interpreting awards, enterprise agreements and employment conditions
  • Processing new starters, terminations, leave, allowances and payroll adjustments
  • Maintaining accurate employee records and payroll data
  • Completing payroll reconciliations and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations
  • Assisting with payroll reporting, audits and month-end requirements
  • Liaising closely with HR and Finance to ensure smooth payroll operations

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience processing end-to-end payroll
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation, PAYG and leave calculations
  • Ability to interpret awards and employment agreements
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience with payroll and ERP systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
