Senior Litigation Associate - IP, Media & Defamation

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Litigation Associate to join a highly regarded specialist commercial law firm in Sydney.

Our client is a boutique Australian commercial law firm of approximately 35 staff, specialising in intellectual property, technology and media law. The firm offers sophisticated, high-quality work within a collaborative, professional and friendly environment.

This is an opportunity to work closely with experienced Partners on complex and often high-profile disputes, while enjoying genuine autonomy, direct client contact and the opportunity to further develop your expertise across IP, media and commercial litigation.

The Role
As a Senior Associate, you will take ownership of a range of complex litigation matters from initial advice through to resolution, settlement or hearing.

Your work will include:

• Intellectual property litigation
• Defamation and reputational disputes
• Media litigation
• Broader commercial disputes
• Developing case strategy alongside Partners and clients
• Drafting pleadings, affidavits, submissions and evidence
• Managing discovery, interlocutory applications and hearing preparation
• Briefing and working closely with Counsel and experts
• Attending court, mediations and settlement conferences
• Providing commercial and strategic advice directly to clients

You will have meaningful involvement in case strategy and client relationships rather than simply being responsible for execution.

About You
You will ideally have 5–7 years PQE with experience in commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, media litigation or a closely related disputes practice.

You will also bring:

• Experience in one or more of defamation, media disputes or intellectual property litigation
• Strong litigation and dispute resolution skills
• Excellent drafting and written communication skills
• Confidence managing matters and communicating directly with sophisticated clients
• Strong commercial judgement and a practical approach to dispute resolution
• The ability to work autonomously while collaborating closely with Partners
• A current Australian practising certificate
