About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in the design, implementation, and management of enterprise infrastructure platforms that support both business-critical services and advanced High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. This role sits at the intersection of enterprise IT and research computing, ensuring the organisation's infrastructure can meet the demands of data-intensive workloads, large-scale compute environments, and future growth.

As a subject matter expert, you will be responsible for delivering and supporting enterprise-grade storage, backup, virtualisation, and data centre infrastructure, while contributing to the ongoing evolution of platforms that underpin HPC and research computing capabilities.

Key responsibilities:

• Contribute to the strategic planning, design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise high-performance storage solutions (SAN, NAS, object storage), backup platforms, and virtualisation platforms.
• Manage and plan the complex architectural design, deployment, and ongoing management of storage capacity, performance, and data protection.
• Provide technical expertise to ensure infrastructure solutions are delivered in accordance with approved technical architectures and operational models.
• Manage and undertake the design and upkeep of data centre facility and network infrastructure components critical for the operation of compute, storage, and virtualisation environments.
• Apply engineering principles, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) to ensure robust and repeatable deployments across both Kubernetes and underlying infrastructure.

Required skills & experience:

• Extensive experience designing and supporting enterprise storage environments
• Experience with Linux operating systems and command-line tools
• Expertise in designing, deploying, and managing production-grade VMware virtualisation environments
• Solid understanding of data centre infrastructure principles relevant to high-performance compute and storage environments
• Experience working within enterprise infrastructure environments
• Experience with designing and building infrastructure solutions that align with security best practices
