Hays are excited to be partnering with a local council in Melbourne's southeastern suburbs to recruit an experienced Senior Project Manager Buildings. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of building projects, with a strong focus on the refurbishment, upgrade and repurposing of existing council facilities, as well as the delivery of new community buildings.Working within a high-performing infrastructure and capital works team, you will play a key role in delivering projects that enhance community assets and improve services for local residents.
About the RoleYou will be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle from planning and procurement through to construction delivery, stakeholder management and asset handover. You will lead multiple building projects simultaneously, ensuring outcomes are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of building and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare project plans, cost estimates, programmes and procurement documentation.
- Oversee the tendering process, contractor engagement and contract administration.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, risks and project outcomes.
- Undertake site inspections and provide construction oversight throughout delivery.
- Manage consultants, contractors and project stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant building legislation, standards, policies and OH&S requirements.
- Prepare project reports, council briefings and status updates.
- Drive best-practice project management, sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate project handover activities and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained.
Key Selection Criteria
- Significant experience delivering building, construction or capital works projects, ideally within local government or a similar public sector environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing building refurbishments, facility upgrades and building construction projects.
- Strong contract administration and contractor management experience.
- Sound knowledge of building regulations, construction methodologies and project delivery frameworks.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets, timelines and competing priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong understanding of risk management, governance and OH&S requirements within construction environments.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, briefs and procurement documentation.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Project Management, Building, Construction Management.
