Senior Legal Counsel

Newly created Senior Legal Counsel opportunity with a well-established ASX-listed business.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this is a broad legal role offering significant autonomy and exposure across the business, as well as the opportunity to mentor a Junior Legal Counsel.
With a strong pipeline of growth initiatives, expanding product offerings and a diverse portfolio of leading financial services clients, the role offers excellent breadth and the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders as the business continues to grow.

The Opportunity
Working closely with the General Counsel, your responsibilities will include:

• Advising on a broad range of commercial, corporate and strategic legal matters.
• Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements.
• Supporting fund launches
• Advising on managed investment schemes, responsible entity obligations and broader financial services regulation.
• Supporting Board and governance processes.
• Partnering closely with the Risk & Compliance team on regulatory matters including AFSL, AML/CTF, privacy and DDO obligations.
• Managing external legal advisers where required.
• Supervising and mentoring a Junior Legal Counsel.

Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

• Approximately 6–10 years’ post-qualification experience gained in private practice or in-house.
• A Banking & Finance or M&A / Transactions background would suit the role particularly well, although open to background lawyers with broader corporate or commercial experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with experience preparing and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Well-developed corporate and commercial legal skills.
• The ability to manage matters independently and provide commercially focused legal advice with minimal supervision.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering directly with senior business leaders.
