Lead Works Inspector Substations

About the role

TasNetworks is seeking an experienced Lead Inspector – Substations to provide frontline leadership across the delivery of substation construction activities for the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD).

Reporting to the Construction Manager – Substations, this role is responsible for leading a team of Substation Works Inspectors while coordinating daily construction activities across multiple transmission substation sites. Acting as TasNetworks' primary field representative, you will work closely with contractors, project stakeholders and delivery teams to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.

With significant site presence, you will play a key role in overseeing construction progress, coordinating inspection and quality assurance activities, resolving onsite issues and ensuring alignment between construction delivery, outage requirements and project objectives. You'll be trusted to make informed decisions in the field, drive consistent delivery outcomes, and provide leadership across geographically dispersed project sites.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity suited to someone with deep transmission or substation construction experience who enjoys being close to the work, leading people, and contributing to critical energy infrastructure projects that will help shape Tasmania's energy future.

What you'll do

• Lead and coordinate construction activities across multiple brownfield and greenfield transmission substation projects.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and support to a team of Substation Works Inspectors, fostering a high-performance and safety-focused culture.
• Monitor construction progress and proactively identify risks, constraints and emerging issues impacting safety, quality, costs or schedules.
• Coordinate contractors, designers, commissioning personnel and internal stakeholders to achieve project outcomes.
• Oversee quality assurance requirements, inspection programmes, hold points and compliance activities across all active project sites.
• Review inspection findings, construction reports, non-conformances and quality documentation to ensure timely resolution of issues.
• Support commissioning, energisation, project handover and close-out activities.
• Travel between project locations to maintain strong site leadership and delivery oversight.

About you

You bring extensive experience in transmission substation construction, along with a demonstrated ability to lead frontline teams in complex infrastructure environments. You are equally comfortable working with contractors on site as you are engaging with project stakeholders, resolving construction challenges and influencing successful delivery outcomes.

Your technical knowledge spans civil, structural and electrical substation construction, and you have a strong understanding of quality assurance systems, inspection methodologies, construction compliance requirements and contractor management.

You are a collaborative leader who builds credibility through practical experience, strong communication and sound decision-making. Whether coordinating multiple work fronts, resolving issues in the field or supporting your team to achieve project objectives, you bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach.

An electrical trade qualification, engineering qualification, transmission industry qualification or equivalent practical experience will be highly regarded.
