Pharmacy Technician

JobScout Pty Ltd are working to assist our client, Montague’s Pharmacy (employer: A & A Shiv Pty Ltd as trustee for the Shiv Trust), an established, independently owned community pharmacy in Morwell, Victoria. Montague’s Pharmacy is a trusted part of the local Gippsland community, providing prescription dispensing, medication management and health advice, supported by a dedicated team of pharmacists and pharmacy staff.

As the pharmacy continues to grow its dispensary services and customer base, our client is now seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join the team at Montague’s Pharmacy on a full-time, ongoing basis. The role is based on-site at the pharmacy in Morwell and works under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist on duty.

Responsibilities of our Pharmacy Technician will include:

• Receive and process prescriptions, including checking prescriptions for completeness, verifying patient details and entering prescription data accurately into the pharmacy dispensing system.
• Prepare, count, measure and dispense medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, ensuring accuracy of medicine selection, strength, quantity and labelling, and presenting completed prescriptions for final pharmacist check.
• Prepare and label medications and pharmaceutical products in accordance with prescription requirements, the Poisons Standard and relevant state legislation.
• Prepare dose administration aids (e.g. Webster-paks/blister packs) for patients, ensuring medication charts are accurately followed, and packs are checked by the pharmacist before release.
• Prepare dispensed medications and dose administration aids for collection or delivery to patients, ensuring correct documentation and secure handover.
• Process PBS, RPBS and private claims, maintain accurate dispensing records and ensure compliance with PBS and Medicare requirements.
• Manage dispensary stock, including ordering from wholesalers, receiving and checking deliveries, rotating stock, monitoring expiry dates and returning or disposing of expired and recalled stock in line with procedures.
• Monitor and record refrigerator temperatures and ensure cold chain requirements are maintained for vaccines and temperature-sensitive medications.
• Assist with the secure storage, recording and handling of Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 medicines in line with legislative requirements and pharmacy procedures.
• Assist the pharmacist with medication audits, dispensing reports and medication reviews, including gathering patient medication histories and information for pharmacist review.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the dispensary and equipment and follow infection control and workplace health and safety procedures.
• Liaise with customers, prescribers and suppliers regarding prescription queries, owings and stock availability, referring all clinical and medication advice queries to the pharmacist.
• Assist with maintaining pharmacy quality assurance standards, standard operating procedures and patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.

To be successfully considered for the role, you:

• Hold a recognised AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma qualification relevant to the role.
• Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Pharmacy Technician, ideally within a community pharmacy environment.
• Have demonstrated experience in prescription processing, dispensing procedures and dose administration aid preparation.
• Are proficient in using pharmacy dispensing software and processing PBS claims.
• Possess a sound working knowledge of medication scheduling, PBS requirements and pharmacy legislation.
• Have strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when handling and labelling medications.
• Have experience in stock control, ordering and inventory management.
• Possess excellent communication and customer service skills with a professional and caring approach to patients.
• Are a team player who can work effectively under the direction of pharmacists in a fast-paced dispensary.
