Hays Recruitment is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a temporary contract opportunity with a respected local government organisation in Far North Queensland. This role offers the chance to play a key part in protecting public health, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, and delivering positive outcomes for the local community.Working within a collaborative environmental health team, you will undertake inspections, investigations, education programs and regulatory activities across a diverse range of environmental and public health matters.
Your new role
As the Environmental Health Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting inspections of food businesses, accommodation providers, personal appearance services and environmentally relevant activities.
- Investigating public health, environmental health and environmental protection complaints.
- Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation and implementing appropriate enforcement actions where required.
- Supporting mosquito management and surveillance programs.
- Delivering public health education and awareness initiatives.
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Providing high-quality advice and customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assisting with emergency response and public health risk management activities when required.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- A Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification recognised for membership with Environmental Health Australia.
- Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
- Sound knowledge of environmental health and public health legislation.
- Strong investigation, compliance and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- A professional, customer-focused approach and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Previous local government or environmental health experience will be highly regarded.
