Intensive Family Support Workers – Connected Beginnings Program

1 year fixed-term full-time contract (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm)

New roles, permanent fulltime or substantial part-time

Salary dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberra’s only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra, we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.

The Connected Beginnings Program aims to give all children the best possible start by improving their wellbeing before they begin school. This program focuses on family function and access to essential services, ensuring children grow up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment. We need passionate individuals to help us support this vital program and make a real difference!

About the Role

  • Focus on parental capacity building,
  • Help families develop the skills and knowledge needed to create a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment for their children.
  • Guide parents in building confidence and skills in caring for their children
  • Assist families with budgeting exercises to improve financial stability
  • Teach meal preparation and nutrition to encourage healthy eating habits
  • Support parents in establishing routines and family structures
  • Help families set and achieve meaningful goals based on their needs
  • Connect families with local services and resources
  • Work independently under supervision while being part of a supportive team.

About You

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families and communities.
  • Strong commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and community.
  • Ability to work in partnership with families and other staff in an empowering and collaborative way.
  • Has a good understanding of local services and supports available to families
  • Can work independently while receiving guidance and supervision
