Veterinary Investigations Officer

Your New CompanyAn exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Veterinary Investigations Officer to join a specialist emergency animal disease preparedness team within a large organisation. Working within a high-performing biosecurity environment, you will play a critical role in supporting emergency animal disease response activities across Queensland, contributing to the protection of the state's livestock industries and agricultural sector. This is an initial six-month contract with the potential for extension and the flexibility to work remotely with approval.
Your New RoleAs a Veterinary Investigations Officer, you will support emergency animal disease preparedness and response activities, with a particular focus on disease investigations, surveillance, epidemiological analysis and stakeholder coordination. Working as part of the Emergency Animal Disease Preparedness Team, you will:

  • Coordinate and undertake investigations in line with established response plans and incident action plans.
  • Support disease surveillance activities, laboratory submissions and epidemiological interpretation.
  • Ensure timely notification and management of infected, suspect, dangerous contact and trace premises.
  • Liaise with operational and planning teams to monitor disease outbreaks and changing response priorities.
  • Assist with disease modelling, risk assessment and classification of premises.
  • Coordinate resources to facilitate investigations of high-risk premises.
  • Monitor laboratory results and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are undertaken.
  • Collaborate with interstate stakeholders regarding cross-border tracing activities.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to significant biosecurity response efforts while working with a highly specialised team.
What You'll Need to SucceedTo be considered for this position, you will possess:

  • A degree in Veterinary Science (AQF Level 7 or higher) that is eligible for registration in Queensland.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency animal disease control measures and response frameworks.
  • High-level familiarity with AUSVETPLAN and relevant disease control strategies and operational manuals.
  • The ability to interpret laboratory reports and apply epidemiological principles to disease investigations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse stakeholders.

Highly regarded candidates will also have knowledge and experience working with intensive livestock industries.
