An opportunity has become available for an experienced Cost Control Officer to join a well-established organisation in Cairns on a short-term contract. Supporting a busy projects team, you will play a key role in maintaining financial controls, monitoring project expenditure, and ensuring accurate processing of project-related costs.
This position will suit someone with strong financial administration experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Your new role
Reporting to the Finance team, you will be responsible for supporting project cost control activities, including:

• Raising purchase orders for approved projects in accordance with approved delegations and internal processes.
• Matching and receipting invoices against purchase orders.
• Reviewing project budgets and actual expenditure to identify variances and ensure expenditure remains within approved budgets.
• Monitoring contractor progress claims and verifying alignment with approved project scope and budget allocations.
• Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting project teams with cost management activities.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience in a Finance Officer, Cost Control Officer, Accounts Officer, Project Finance, or similar role.
• Strong understanding of purchase order and accounts payable processes.
• Experience working with project budgets, cost tracking, and financial reconciliations.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• The ability to build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Experience using TechnologyOne (TechOne) will be highly regarded.
