BIM SPECIALIST - DESIGN TECHNOLOGY & COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN

  • Drive digital innovation across a national architecture practice
  • Develop scripts and computational workflows
  • Take ownership of emerging technologies, research and digital systems

ABOUT THE COMPANY
A leading Australian architecture and design practice delivering complex, design-led projects across a diverse range of sectors. The business combines architectural expertise with technology and innovation to improve how projects are conceived, developed and delivered.
With a nationally connected team and a strong focus on design quality, the practice is investing in its digital capabilities and computational workflows to support better design outcomes and more efficient ways of working.

ABOUT THE ROLE
An opportunity for a BIM Specialist with a computational and technology-focused background to join a national BIM team, based in Sydney.
This is not a traditional BIM drafting or documentation role. The focus is on developing digital systems, scripting, automation and computational workflows that improve the way architects work across the practice.
You'll work at the intersection of architecture, design technology and digital innovation, researching new tools, developing practical solutions and helping teams integrate smarter processes into their day-to-day workflows. It's suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, experimenting with emerging technologies and turning ideas into tools that deliver measurable value.

DUTIES

  • Develop scripts, tools and automated workflows to improve design processes and team productivity.
  • Support the development and implementation of BIM standards, digital systems and computational design strategies.
  • Research & evaluate emerging technologies, software and AI-enabled workflows relevant to architectural practice.
  • Identify repetitive or inefficient processes and develop scalable digital solutions.
  • Work with architects, BIM professionals and internal stakeholders to understand challenges and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing integration and optimisation of the practice's digital design environment.
  • Share knowledge and support the adoption of new tools across multidisciplinary teams.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in computational design, BIM technology, digital design systems or a related technical discipline within architecture or the built environment.
  • Strong scripting or programming skills, ideally using Python, C#, JavaScript or similar languages.
  • Experience developing automation tools, custom applications, parametric workflows or software integrations.
  • Understanding of BIM environments and architectural design workflows, with Revit, Dynamo, Rhino or Grasshopper experience advantageous.
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to research, test and implement new technologies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with designers and technical teams to turn complex challenges into practical solutions.

CULTURE
Join a design-led architectural practice where technology is treated as a tool for improving design thinking, not simply producing project documentation. You'll work alongside a nationally connected team, collaborating with architects and technical specialists across different studios.

The environment suits someone who enjoys questioning existing processes and testing new approaches. You'll have the opportunity to contribute beyond individual projects, helping shape how digital technology is developed and adopted across the wider business.

BENEFITS

  • Flexible work. WFH, early starts, late finishes, etc.
  • Work with a specialist BIM and design technology team across multiple studios.
  • Contribute to the development of tools, scripts and digital workflows that can be adopted across the practice.
  • Innovation focus, spending your time on automation, computational workflows, research and digital systems rather than routine BIM documentation.
  • Build expertise across emerging technologies and digital design within an established architectural environment.
  • See your work translate into practical improvements in how architectural teams design, and solve problems.
